چکیده
While many papers report biomethanation potential of various substrates subjected to treatments, very few the economic implications their work. Here, we a simple but effective mechanistic model, using Contois and Monod kinetics, considering only two classes micro-organisms (a) acidogens (b) acetomethanogens. We fitted our model CH4 CO2 evolution data from studies water lettuce (pistia stratiotes) inoculated with buffalo dung at five different ratios substrate inoculum. The was obtained by gas chromatography. has been used simulate three types biodigestors: 1-stage continuous digestor, 2-stage digestor (c) semi-batch intermittent draining digestate. exhibited no major improvement over presenting 4% increase in methane production rate 25% longer response times. best performance shown operation due tolerance high microbial loads. Biogas generated grown on farm pond approach can be monetized offsetting use market bought LPG. return investment is 24.7% 25 kg emissions are abated per ton utilized.

Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) in the Great Lakes: playing with fire?
The Laurentian Great Lakes have been successfully invaded by at least 182 nonindigenous species. Here we report on two new species, water hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes and water lettuce Pistia stratiotes, that were found at a number of locations in Lake St. Clair and Detroit River during autumn 2010. Both species are commonly sold in the water garden and aquarium trade in southern Ontario and e...
متن کاملUptake and distribution of metals by water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.).
BACKGROUND, AIM AND SCOPE Water quality impairment by heavy metal contamination is on the rise worldwide. Phytoremediation technology has been increasingly applied to remediate wastewater and stormwater polluted by heavy metals. MATERIALS AND METHODS Laboratory analysis and field trials were conducted to evaluate the uptake of metals (Al, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Pb, and Zn)...

Background: The study was undertaken to determine the phytochemical screening and the antibacterial activities of Pistia stratiotes (water lettuce) against some clinically isolated fish pathogens. Methods: The healthy and disease free plants samples were collected from Jebba Upper Basin of River Niger and tested for their antibacterial activities and phytochemical properties. Pistia stratiotes ...
متن کاملPhytoremediation to remove nutrients and improve eutrophic stormwaters using water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.).
BACKGROUND, AIM, AND SCOPE Water quality impairment by nutrient enrichment from agricultural activities has been a concern worldwide. Phytoremediation technology using aquatic plants in constructed wetlands and stormwater detention ponds is increasingly applied to remediate eutrophic waters. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effectiveness and potential of water lettuce (Pistia s...

Specimens of Pistia stratiotes were subjected to five concentrations of arsenic (As) for seven days. Growth, As absorption, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, photosynthetic pigments, enzymatic activities, amino acids content and anatomical changes were assessed. Plant arsenic accumulation increased with increasing metalloid in the solution, while growth rate and photosynthetic pigment content decr...
